Cristina Eagan

Personal: 24, single.

Occupation: Owner/designer at Button Down Graphics & Designs

My favorite thing to do in Rochester: Apple picking! I also love cookouts at Mendon Ponds Park and hunting for new wireless coffee shops to visit. More recently, I've been known to make a fool of myself at the Strong — National Museum of Play or the Rochester Museum and Science Center. (The fun is contagious...)

What I'm reading now: Life of Pi by Yann Martel and The Business Side of Creativity by Cameron S. Foote.

Biggest challenge I've overcome and how I did it: Deciding to throw all caution to the wind and start the business was a huge challenge because nothing was guaranteed to work out, which was pretty frightening. However, deciding to make that commitment to my goals and dreams helped me set aside some of that fear. That allowed me to simply start moving toward those goals and to focus on how I would approach each issue that arose. I also found huge support from within my family, which has helped me overcome innumerable obstacles. Every challenge has its benefits — and I now get to work with amazing people from a wide variety of industries and organizations.

The best advice I ever received: Love and enjoy what you do, put forth the effort into doing it well, and treat everyone with respect. As well as, "even a journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step."

Goal that I'm working on right now: Right now I'm beginning to work on my Spanish speaking skills, which have been in a sad state for quite some time. I love working with many of the organizations within the Rochester Latino community and speaking the language is certainly an important aspect that I was missing out on.

What I do to relieve stress: "iPod dancing" in the kitchen and singing loudly in the car on the way to meetings.

My favorite guilty pleasure: Weekly Grey's Anatomy plus kettle corn nights with my sister. (I guess the kettle corn is the only "guilty" part).

What people say about her: Client Wendy Roche, senior communications associate at United Way of Greater Rochester: "Cristina is one of my favorite designers to work with. Her ideas are fresh, fun and unique — and she just has really great creative energy. And, she is patient, which is really important since a lot of times I have to change project details a few times. Cristina just rolls with the punches, though secretly she may dread getting e-mails from me sometimes!"
