UNIVERSITY OF ROCHESTER
|
Personal: 38 of Rochester; married for 20 years to the same guy who is both my husband and colleague, with three sons, ages 4, 7, and 13.
Occupation: Associate Professor of Biology at the University of Rochester. I study aging and cancer. Our goal is to extend human lifespan and prevent age-related diseases.
Community activities: Teaching and advising students. Educating people about aging.
My favorite thing to do in Rochester: Rochester has wonderful parks that are just a short drive away. My favorite parks are Webster Park and Mendon Ponds Park. In the summer and fall we love picking wild mushrooms there.
Biggest challenge I’ve overcome and how I did it: Emigrating from the Soviet Union to Israel at the age of 19 with my husband who was 20, leaving our families behind. When we landed in Israel we had $75 in our pockets, and were not very fluent in English. We had to start a new life in a new world, which was a challenge. We overcame it by setting goals and supporting each other. Soon we were admitted to the best graduate program in Israel and our dreams started to come true.
One thing I’ve always wanted to do but never have: Traveling to Antarctica.
If I could change one thing about myself it would be: I would like to always stay healthy.
The talent I would most like to have: In general, I am happy with the talents I have; one thing I do not have is a good singing voice.
The one thing I can’t live without: A walk in the woods.
The song that best describes my life: Do not know.
One of my favorite sayings is: “Never ever give up” and “Do not take no for an answer”.
Actress I’d like to portray me in a movie about my life: I do not have TV, and do not really know actresses names.
