Lawana Jones

Personal: 45 of Gates; single with two children.

Occupation: IT Consultant & Volunteer Executive Director, The Autism Council of Rochester, Inc.

Community activities: Starting a non-profit agency to provide transition services in Rochester for individuals with autism.

My favorite thing to do in Rochester: Visit the George Eastman House.

Biggest challenge I’ve overcome and how I did it: Dispelling Stereotypes about the success of women in leadership roles, and successfully educating a child with autism in the public school system. The key in both circumstances is team collaboration and building trust and respect amongst the team.

One thing I’ve always wanted to do but never have: Learn to ride a motorcycle.

If I could change one thing about myself it would be: The ability to be more direct in certain situations.

The talent I would most like to have: The ability to sing.

The one thing I can’t live without: The support of my family.

My Favorite Poem: “I know Why the Caged Bird Sings,” by Maya Angelou.

One of my favorite sayings is: No matter what happens, just keep it moving.

Actress I’d like to portray me in a movie about my life: Taraji P. Henson.
