Personal: 44, of Perinton; married with two daughters, ages 10 and 13.
Occupation: Practice director, Accounting and Finance Division for Cochran Cochran & Yale. In more simple terms, I am an executive recruiter and CPA specializing in the accounting and finance discipline.
Community activities: Sojourner House: Board member, Executive Committee, Board Secretary, Major Gifts Committee, Board Governance Chair, and Gala Auction Chair; Diocese of Rochester: Stewardship Council Member and Finance Committee; New York State Society of CPAs: Past president, current Board Member; Institute of Management Accountants: Past president; St. John Fisher College: Accounting/Finance Advisory Board, Accounting Alumni Society Executive Committee; Rochester Area Community Foundation: Evening Out at Home Committee and Past Event Co-Chair; Church of the Assumption: Lector; Mayfair Park/Fairmont Hills Neighborhood Coordinator.
My favorite thing to do in Rochester: Go out to listen to live music, whether it is a concert, the Jazz Festival, or at any of the many establishments who have live music on the weekends. There is so much musical talent locally that we don’t fully appreciate.
Biggest challenge I’ve overcome and how I did it: I was confined to a combined nine months of strict, 100 percent bed rest between my two pregnancies. People joked about how great it would be to lie around for nine months, but trust me, it gets old quickly — especially if you are used to being a very active person and, in the second pregnancy, having a 3-year-old running around the house. It is both mentally and physically very taxing.
I was able to overcome it by: 1) convincing my employer to let me work remotely, which kept me sane; 2) a strong sense of faith, and 3) lots of support from family who stepped in to help each day.
One thing I’ve always wanted to do but never have: Travel to Italy. It’s definitely on my “bucket list.” My 95-year-old Italian grandmother, Nancy Mangione, just passed away. In reflecting on that loss, I am feeling even more of a pull to visit the family we still have in Italy.
If I could change one thing about myself it would be: Being a CPA, I am conservative by nature and a definite rule-follower. I would like to be a little more spontaneous and more of a risk-taker.
The talent I would most like to have: I would like to be a good golfer so I could play with my husband more.
The one thing I can’t live without: My family … and chocolate!
My favorite movie: Ghost
One of my favorite sayings is: “What lies behind us and what lies ahead of us is of very little importance when it’s compared to what lies within us.” Ralph Waldo Emerson
A person who has inspired me: My mother, Josephine Shank. She gives of herself and her time until she is completely drained. Her devotion to her extended family and friends is unending. She is the epitome of the word caretaker and is an angel on earth.
