Michelle Sommerman

Personal: 34, of Rochester, married.

Occupation: Mechanical project engineer at Bergmann Associates, Building Group; Bergmann’s Sustainability Coordinator.

Community activities: Involved in local chapters of Advancing HVAC&R to Serve Humanity and Promote a Sustainable World, U.S. Green Building Council, Canal Clean Sweep. I am also a freelance sustainability blogger on the Democrat and Chronicle Web site RocEarth.com.

My favorite thing to do in Rochester: No one favorite … Love the Park Avenue area — coffee shops, bars, restaurants, just walking the neighborhood in the summer with friends (add an ice cream cone from Abbott’s), movies at the Little.

Biggest challenge I’ve overcome and how I did it: Don’t know that I’ve really had any big challenges … just taking on many smaller challenges at the office and at home.

One thing I’ve always wanted to do but never have: Travel throughout Europe.

The talent I would most like to have: Sing and or play guitar like a rock star!

The one thing I can’t live without: Not including my husband, family and good friends … If we’re talking a material thing, not survival, then it would have to be sweets. They are my weakness.

My favorite movie: So many … Gone with the Wind is the one I’ve liked for the longest, since I was in high school.

One of my favorite sayings is: I guess it would be “Do unto others…” It’s good rule to live by. I can’t say that I do, but it’s something to shoot for.

A person who has inspired me (and why): That is tough … not a single person. I’d have to say my family —Nana, Mom, Dad, sister and even little brother. I learned (and am still learning) something from each one. Without them I wouldn’t be me.
