Erin Esposito

Personal: Age 35, of Henrietta.

Occupation: Executive director, Advocacy Services for Abused Deaf Victims (ASADV).

Community activities: Chair of NTID Alumni Association Board of Directors, Member of University of Rochester Medical Center Community Advisory Council.

My favorite thing to do in Rochester: Go tubing at Polar Wave! Walking down the Genesee River. Going to Wegmans — love the people there!

Biggest challenge I’ve overcome and how I did it: Sharing my experiences, as a survivor of childhood sexual abuse and domestic violence, with an audience of 200 people in Seattle, Wash. How I did it? Lots of support from friends and loved ones.

One thing I’ve always wanted to do but never have: Publish a book! Soon hope to make this a reality.

If I could change one thing about myself it would be: My chronic blushing.

The talent I would most like to have: The ability to skydive solo. I’ve gone tandem but never solo. That’s a talent I’d definitely like to have!

The one thing I can’t live without: My BlackBerry. Pathetic, I know. (grin) … Seriously though, I’d have to say my family and friends.

My favorite movie: A Bug’s Life. I love this movie because of the many lessons of life one can draw from it — teamwork, believing in yourself, facing change, and much more. I have used this movie for several leadership presentations in the past.

One of my favorite sayings is: Onward and upward.

A person who has inspired me (and why): Dr. Ellie Rosenfield, associate dean for Student & Academic Services at NTID. She recently passed away after a two-year battle with cancer. No one knew she was going to pass away so soon, for she was so positive and optimistic about her battle with cancer. Ellie was confident that she was going to “kick cancer to the curb.” She was one of the most genuine people I’ve ever known in my life. She was as real as real gets. Ellie was an extraordinary mentor to me these past 18 years and I’m a better person for having known her.
