Erica Dunton

Personal: 24 of Canandaigua.

Occupation: Sixth-grade general education teacher at Palmyra-Macedon Central School District.

Community activities: Camp EAGR, walks for the Epilepsy Foundation, coach modified girl’s lacrosse at Palmyra-Macedon Central School District, organize and run P.M. Reading Pals at Palmyra-Macedon Middle School.

My favorite thing to do in Rochester: Go for walks.

Biggest challenge I’ve overcome and how I did it: Having a seizure one week before I started my teaching career at Pal-Mac MS. I looked ahead to my teaching career and the students I had coming into my sixth-grade class and was inspired to work extra hard to get my classroom ready for them.

One thing I’ve always wanted to do but never have: It was skydiving until about a week ago when I actually went!

If I could change one thing about myself it would be: That I was artistic so that I could also illustrate children’s books.

The talent I would most like to have: The ability to draw (for my students’ sake!).

The one thing I can’t live without: Family.

My favorite movie: Pretty Woman.

One of my favorite sayings is: “An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind.” — M.K. Gandhi.

A person who has inspired me (and why): Someone who has inspired me is my co-teacher, Lisa Goldan. She is an amazing teacher and person and my role model not only for my teaching career but also for how I want to live my life helping others.
