Karen Craft

Personal: 38, of Rochester, in a relationship.

Number of children: My dog Madden.

Occupation: Owner/photographer/graphic designer of Karen Craft Photography and Graphics. Financial analyst for Harris is my day job.

Community activities: Donate photos and proceeds from limited edition prints to Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester. Donate to ASPCA and United Way.

My favorite thing to do in Rochester: There are so many wonderful things to do in Rochester, but to narrow it down to a few — Red Wings games with my best friend, visiting the various art galleries, studios and shops. Rochester is very runner-friendly. I love running in the many different towns and races. I also love all the festivals and the Public Market.

Biggest challenge I’ve overcome and how I did it: Fear of failing. Even though family and friends have always loved my photography and creative work, I never thought I was able to go any further with it — I was afraid others would reject it for various reasons. Finally, I took the step, opened my own business and have had wonderful response and successes. From time to time, we have to remind ourselves that an endeavor may not always come out the way we would have expected or hoped, but we shouldn’t classify those as failures. We learn a lot from those experiences and continually improve ourselves. If success was just handed to us, think of all we would miss along the way.

One thing I’ve always wanted to do but never have: Travel to Greece. To see the ancient ruins, the beautiful islands, the food and the people.

If I could change one thing about myself it would be: I would love to be more of a morning person.

The talent I would most like to have: Magic!! (I can see my friends rolling their eyes).

The one thing I can’t live without: Laughter.

My favorite movie: Too many to name, but no romance types.

One of my favorite sayings is: “Keep moving forward.” — Walt Disney.

A person who has inspired me (and why): There are many people who inspire me. There are the lifelong people, such as my mother and best friend, who both have amazing courage and determination, and the people who are in my life just for a short time to renew my spark and remind me to keep moving forward. Inspiration can be found everywhere if you are open to seeing it.
